Biological synthesis of rare sugars

Research Direction

        My research area focus on the biological synthesis of functional sugar alchols and rare sugars, with generally regarded as safe (GRAS ) yeasts or bacteria as microbial cell factories. Among those functional sugar alchols, erythritol and xylitol have been produced with high yield with newly constructed yeasts, and have been industrialized. Up to date, 15 papers have been published, 9 patents have been applied or authorized, 5 research projects have been industrialized and achieved very good results.

1. Biological synthesis of rare sugars.
2. Biological reconstitution and optimization of synthesis of functional sugar alcohols.
3. Mechanism of acid-resistance and high-temperature-resistance of sugar alchols-producing yeasts.
