Uncovering the Biosynthetic Secrets of Filamentous Fungi

Speaker:Yi Tang,

        Los Angeles, CA

Abstract:   In this talk, I will present recent progresses made in my  lab towards the reconstitution, characterization and engineering of fungal secondary metabolic pathways. We have established robust  heterologous platforms, such as E. coli and S. cerevisiae, for the expression of fungal megasynthases. Megasynthases that will be discussed include polyketide synthases (PKS), nonribosomal synthetases  (NRPS) and PKS-NRPS hybrids. These microbial hosts can be powerful  tools for genome mining of filamentous fungi.
